MEXICO CITY (07/FEB/2012) – The Sinaloa cartel headed by drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera has increased its presence in South America and the Caribbean.
Just a few weeks ago a cell of that criminal organization was captured. The U.S. Attorney for fighting drugs, Ronald Sharpe announced a few days ago in the Dominican Republic said, that the cartel cells are operating in the territory and warned that this band and others are increasing their presence in this part of America.
As part of the presentation of the “Diamond Program” that will train almost 130 public servants in matters of criminal trials and proceedings, Sharpe warned that drug trafficking is already present from South America, the Caribbean, and throughout the Mexican territory and the United States.
The official dispatches from the Virgin Islands underscored the importance of promoting new ways to curb this crime, as drug traffickers use any means possible to transport goods and the money they get for their sale. Sharpe considers that the “Project Diamond” is a mechanism to combat transnational organizations such as” El Chapos’ ” to not operate loud and strong across the region.
