The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) said Wednesday in a statement that members of the Federal Police on Monday arrested Sergio Hernandez Carriedo, alias El Rayo , and who allegedly was responsible for the Knights Templar in the central state of Guanajuato.
The Knights Templar announced its creation earlier this year after a split within La Familia, a cartel to which the SSP considered practically dismantled.
The stronghold of La Familia , and today the Knights Templar , is considered the state of Michoacan, but have expanded their operations to neighboring entities as Guanajuato.
The SSP was reported that police in Michoacan Carriedo for 11 years until the 1990’s. In 2000 he was confined in a prison for the crimes of robbery and extortion, but was released in 2004.
The man reportedly 46 years was appointed in 2009 as head of La Familia in Guanajuato and is now part of the Knights Templar .
“He was allegedly responsible for carrying out actions of illegal deprivation of liberty, extortion, murder and drug stores retail” in various places in Guanajuato, and corrupt local authorities, said the federal agency.
Carriedo was arrested in Michoacan along with a man identified as an instructor at the police academy in Michoacán.
