Responsible or not?

More than 200 Mexicans have died because of the weapons involved in the operation Fast and Furious executed by the U.S. government, according to U.S. Congressman Darrell Issa .

The legislator, chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform House of Representatives, is one of the Republican politicians who have led the campaign for Washington to clarify how the operation worked.

Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Snuff, Firearms and Explosives (ATF, for its acronym in English) revealed in March that, as part of Fast and Furious , received orders to allow the traffic of arms from the U.S. to Mexico , with In order to detect major traffickers.

Sen. Chuck Grassley and other politicians say that the operation was a failure and endangered officers and citizens in both countries, while the head of the Department of Justice, Eric Holder, denies any responsibility in the case .

“We are seeking people dead on both sides of the border. An estimated more than 200 Mexicans have died from the weapons to which our administration, our government, allowed to walk (toward Mexican territory), “Issa said in an interview with CNN . “All we are doing (the legislators) is our constitutional duty … to make people accountable,” he said.

At least one agent of the U.S. Border Patrol, Brian Terry, was killed by weapons of Fast and Furious . According to Congressional inquiries, about 2,000 weapons illegally crossed the border as part of the operation, of which about 1,400 have been located .

Issa criticized the head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Janet Napolitano, slow to react to the deaths of Terry and Holder held accountable. The Border Patrol depends on the DHS.

On several occasions, the government of Mexico has declared that he was not aware of the performance of Fast and Furious , and through the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), Washington demanded information on the case .

Mexico requires that U.S. authorities take the necessary measures to stop trafficking of weapons and cash, believing that they reach the Mexican organized crime groups, increase their strength and difficult fight.

Jesus Enrique Rejon Aguilar, alleged founder of the criminal organization Los Zetas , said after his arrest that the group acquired its weapons through contacts in the United States .
