Ciudad Juarez, Chih., December 2 .- A group of men with their faces covered shot and killed today a speaker of a popular radio station in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua as he left a bar where he worked, reported the local authorities.
The victim, identified as Hugo Cesar Muruato was intercepted this morning in the city of Chihuahua, the state capital by a group of men who shot several times outside the bar “SounguiRongui” and then fled said the Municipal Police of Chihuahua in a statement.
Muruato, popularly called “Spanky” was known for driving a segment of banda music on the radio station “90.9 La Caliente”, a station with thousands of listeners.
It was unclear the motive for the attack and the attackers are still at large, he said, for its part, the state Attorney General’s namesake.
Chihuahua is the most violent of Mexico, which accounts for about 30% of the more than 40,000 murders across the country over the past five years.
Mexico is considered the most dangerous country for journalists America, and fifth in the world to develop the profession, according to United Nations.
Violence against journalists has left 75 people dead since 2000 to date, according to the Rapporteur for freedom of expression of the UN and the Organization of American States (OAS).
