The project seeks to convert the building plot or financing a border tunnel and allow authorities to confiscate the property!

The Senate Judiciary Committee today approved U.S. on a voice vote a bipartisan bill to combat illegal tunnels and narcotics trafficking in the border area. “These passages are more than just holes in the ground, some have elevators, electric rail steel doors and even hydraulic control, “said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who promoted the initiative with Republican Jon Kyl. “border tunnels can be used for transporting drugs, weapons or people, and pose a serious threat to our national security, “the chairwoman of the International Drug Control legislative. “I call the (full) Senate to quickly pass this bill,” Feinstein said.

The draft S.1236 legislation provides additional tools to law enforcement and prosecutors to locate tunnels, identify criminal activity and to punish those involved in illicit drug trafficking and people at the border.

The Democratic senator said in a statement that last November, authorities discovered a tunnel, equipped with lights and ventilation, which linked warehouses in the border cities of San Diego (California) and Tijuana (Baja California).

The authorities discovered 32 tons of marijuana valued at more than 65 million dollars, the largest seizure associated with a border tunnel and one of the largest seizures in the history of the country.

The project aims to make conspiracy or financing the construction of a border tunnel and allow authorities to confiscate the property, because they consider such and illegal activity under the money laundering laws.
