The European Union (EU) today condemned the attacks in Mexico Mexican activists in recent weeks and hoped that the authorities bring to justice the perpetrators of the “increasing attacks and threats against defenders of human rights. “
In a statement, the delegation of the European bloc in Mexico condemned “tight” the shooting on Dec. 2 against activist Norma Andrade in the state of Chihuahua and the kidnapping of environmentalists Eva Marcial Bautista Alarcon, Guerrero on day 7 .
Also failed assassination on 7 December Chrysostom Trinity Cross, in the western state ofMichoacan, and Moreno Nepomuceno, Sonora (northern Mexico) in late November, the latter whose research was taken today by the prosecution general.
Cross Chrysostom and Moreno were part of the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity (MPJD), who was born last April after the murder of the son of poet Javier Sicilia, Juan Francisco, to demand an end to violence and a new strategy of security.
The EU delegation expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims and hoped that “the Mexican government will continue working to set up effective mechanism for protecting human rights defenders”, announced earlier this year by the President Felipe Calderon.
He reiterated his support for the efforts of Mexican authorities to strengthen respect for human rights and expressed “its readiness to cooperate with them in this way.”
The human rights violations in Mexico have increased due to the resurgence of violence from organized crime and the involvement of military forces in the fight against drug cartels.
