Nephew of Osiel Cardenas pleads guilty to drug trafficking
Brownsville- The nephew of former head of the Gulf Narco Cartel in Texas pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and marijuana. In exchange for his admission on Monday in federal court in Brownsville, the prosecution agreed to raise other charges against Rafael Cardenas, 38.
He faces a sentence of 10 years to life imprisonment.
Two others arrested with him last month were sentenced to time served in prison for perjury [lying] to federal agents.
Cárdenas Vela is the nephew of Osiel Cardenas Guillen, who last year was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
