CULIACAN, June 8. – An ammonia tank exploded this afternoon in a warehouse where they allegedly were processing synthetic drugs illegally, causing the death of one person and injuring three others, officials of Sinaloa.
The State Directorate for Civil Protection said the incident occurred around 14:30 hours in a warehouse located behind a daycare center on Avenida Venustiano Carranza and Benito Juarez street in this city.
He added that because of the explosion collapsed walls and metal structures of the winery.
He said that upon entering the place the authorities apparently found chemical reactors and implements that are used to make synthetic drugs.
According to the report of items of Civil Protection and Fire departments, the explosion was caused when performing welding and a spark apparently fell into one of the chemical precursors, which caused the outbreak.
It was mentioned that the nursery was evacuated and no child was affected.
The site was cordoned off by soldiers and the Mexican Federal Police
