Baby dies after being locked in car and forgotten by its parents

A five year old boy discovered the body of his sister six months old in a car after sitting in the rear seat of the vehicle, after his parents for him at school. The baby, Rosalyn Ramos, was imprisoned nine hours by his parents who forgot her in the car, the number of infant deaths in the U.S. rose to 29 in 2012, quoted The Miami Herald newspaper.

The girl’s father, Lazaro Ramos, told the Miami Homicide Unit it was not part of his duty to take the child to the child day care in the mornings.

“The family must be destroyed. They were obsessed with this girl and crazy about her,” said Ana Arias, said a neighbor of the Ramos family, recounted the American newspaper.

“The change in daily routine is the number one cause” of these accidents, said Amber Rollins, director of Kids and Cars, a Kansas based organization dedicated to preventing child deaths.

At the moment, the girl’s father has not been charged by authorities. In the state of Florida it is illegal to leave a child in a car for more than 15 minutes, and the violation of this law entails the payment of a fine.

“It’s not a matter of punishing the parents,” Duncan said. “It’s about awareness and education. You might think that is an issue with only irresponsible people but that is not true it also happens with very responsible parents,” she noted.
